Earthling man
(*)
The ‘
tree
of life
’ is con-
stantly referred
to and portrayed
by the Assyrio-
Babylonian
myths, such as
here in front
of Sargon I.
Darius himself
in his campaign
against Alex-
ander wore the
holy mantle,
which had the
tree of life
”em-
broidered on it.

Ch. 2:17
6
But there went up a mist
Vg*1
from the earth,
and watered the whole face of the ground.
7
And
the LORD God formed man
8
of the dust of the
ground, and
9
breathed
10
into his nostrils the
breath of life; and
11
man became a living soul.
8
And the [LORD] God planted a
12
garden
14
eastward
13
in Eden; and there he
15
put the man
whom he had formed.
9
And out of the ground made the LORD God
to grow
16
every tree that is pleasant to the sight,
and good for food;
17
the tree of life also in the
middle of the garden, and
18
the tree of knowledge
of good and evil.
10
And a river went out of Eden
to water the garden;
Vg*2
and from there it was
parted, and became into four heads.
11
The name of the first is Pison: that is it which
compasses
19
the whole land of Havilah, where
there is gold;
12
And the gold of that land is good:
there is
20
bdellium and the onyx stone.
Vg+
13
And
the name of the second river is Gihon: the same
is it that compasses the whole land of Ethiopia.
14
And the name of the third river is Hiddekel:
that is it which goes toward the east of Assyria.
And the fourth river is Euphrates.
15
And the
LORD God took the man, and
21
put him into the
garden of Eden to dress
Vg+
it and to keep it.
16
And the LORD God commanded the man,
saying, Of every tree of the garden you may freely
eat:
17
22
But of the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil,
23
you shall not eat of it: for in the day
that you eat thereof
24
you shall surely die.
18
And
the LORD God said, It is not good that the man
should be alone;
25
I will make him an help meet
for him.
19
26
And out of the ground the LORD
God formed every beast of the field, and every
fowl of the air; and
27
brought them to
II
Adam to
see what he would call them: and whatever Adam
called every living creature, that was the name
thereof.
20
And Adam gave names to all cattle,
and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the
field; but for Adam there was not found an help
meet for him.
21
And the LORD God caused a
28
deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept: and
he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh
instead thereof;
22
And the rib, which the LORD
God had taken from man, made he a woman, and
29
brought her to the man.
AdamVg
23
And Adam said, This is now bone of
30
my
bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called
Woman, because she
31
was taken out of Man.
24
32
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his
mother, and shall join to his wife: and they shall
be one flesh.
25
33
And they were both naked, the
man and his wife, and were
34
not ashamed.
[3]
1
Now the
1
serpent was
2
more subtle than
any beast of the field which the LORD God had
made. And he said to the woman, Yes, has God
said, You shall not eat of every tree
of the garden?
Vg*2
2
And the woman
said to the serpent, We may eat of the
fruit of the trees of the garden:
3
3
But
of the fruit of the tree which is in the
middle of the garden, God has said,
6
But there rose
a fountain
out of the
earth, and watered the whole face of the
earth.
7
And God formed the man [of]
dust of the earth, and breathed upon
his face the breath of life, and the man
became a living soul.
8
And God planted
a garden(
paradison
)
Vg2
eastward in Edem,
and placed there the man whom he had
formed.
9
And God made to spring up also
out of the earth every tree beautiful to the
eye and good for food, and the tree of life
in the midst of the garden, and the tree of
learning the knowledge of good and evil
.
10
And a river proceeds out of Edem to water
the garden, thence it divides itself into four
heads.
11
The name of the one, Phisom,
this it is which encircles the whole land of
Evilat, where there is gold.
12
And the gold
of that land is good, there also is
carbuncle
and
emerald
.
13
And the name of the 2
nd
river is Geon, this it is which encircles the
whole land of Ethiopia.
14
And the 3
rd
river
is
Tigris
Vg+
this is that which flows forth
over against the Assyrians. And the 4
th
river
is Euphrates.
15
And the Lord God took the
man whom he had formed, and placed him
in the garden of Delight, to
cultivate
and
keep it.
16
And the Lord God gave a charge
to Adam, saying, Of every tree which is in
the garden thou mayest freely eat,
17
but of
the tree of the knowledge of good and evil--
of it ye shall not eat, but in whatsoever day
ye eat of it, ye shall surely die.
Vg3*
18
And
the Lord God said, [It is] not good that the
man should be alone,
let us
make for him a
help suitable to him
.
19
And God formed yet
farther out of the earth all the wild beasts
of the field, and all the birds of the sky, and
he brought them to Adam, to see what he
would call them, and whatever Adam called
any living creature, that was the name of it.
20
And Adam gave names to all the cattle
and to all the birds of the sky, and to all the
wild beasts of the field, but for Adam there
was not found a help like to himself
.
21
And God brought a
trance
upon Adam, and
he slept, and he took one of his ribs, and
filled up the flesh instead thereof.
22
And God
formed the rib which he took from Adam
into a woman, and brought her to Adam.
23
And Adam said, This now is bone of my
bones, and flesh of my flesh; she shall be
called Woman, because she was taken out
of her husband.
24
Therefore shall a man
leave his father and his mother and shall
cleave to his wife, and they two shall be one
flesh.
25
And the two were naked, both Adam
and his wife,
Vg+
and were not ashamed.

Now the serpent was the most
crafty of all the brutes on the earth, which
the Lord God made, and (

to the woman,Wherefore has God said,
Eat not of every tree of the garden?

the woman said to the serpent,
We may
