And all the days of Methuselah were nine

28
And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two
years, and begat a son:
29
And he called his name

Noah, saying, This
same shall comfort us concerning our work and
toil of our hands, because of the ground
12
which
the LORD has cursed.
30
And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five

daughters:
31
And all the days of Lamech were
seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he
died.

1
And
1
it came to pass, when men began to
multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters
were born to them,
2
That
1a
the sons of God saw the daughters of
men that they were fair; and
2
they took them wives
of all which they chose.
3
And the LORD said,
3
My spirit shall not
always strive with man,
4
for that he also is flesh:
yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
4
There were giants
(I)
in the earth in those days;
and also after that, when the sons of God came in
to the daughters of men, and they bore children to
them, the same became mighty men which were of
old, men of renown.
5
And God saw that the wickedness of man was
great
Vg+
in the earth, and that
5
every imagination of
the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6
And it
6
repented
Vg+
the LORD that he had made
man on the earth, and
7
it grieved him
Vg touched inwardly
at his heart.
7
And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I
have created from the face of the earth; both man,
and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of
the air; for it repents me
Vg+
that I have made them.
8
But Noah
8
found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
9
These are the generations of Noah:
9
Noah was a
just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah
10
walked
Vg+
with God.
10
And Noah begat three sons,
11
Shem, Ham,
and Japheth.
11
The earth also was corrupt
12
before God, and the earth
13
was filled with violence.
22
And Enoch

25
And Mathusala lived an hundred

Lamech.
26
And Mathusala lived after his
begetting Lamech eight hundred and two
years
Vg*3
and begot sons and daughters.
27
And all the days of Mathusala which he
lived, were nine hundred and sixty and nine
years, and he died.
28
And Lamech lived an
hundred and 80 and
eight

years, and
begot a son.
29
And he called his name Noe,
saying, This one will cause us to cease
from our works, and from the toils of our
hands, and from the earth, which the Lord
God has cursed.
30
And Lamech lived after
his begetting Noe, 500 and sixty
Vg*5
and
five years, and begot sons anddaughters.
31
And all the days of Lamech were 700 and
fifty-three

years,and he died.
32
And Noe
was five hundred years old, and he begot
three sons, Sem, Cham, and Japheth.

1
And it came to pass when men
began to be numerous upon the earth,
and daughters were born to them,
2
that
the sons of God having seen the daughters
of men that they were beautiful, took to
themselves wives of all whom they chose.
3
And the Lord God said, My Spirit shall
certainly not
remain
Vg+
among these men
for ever, because they are flesh, but their
days shall be an hundred and twenty
years.
4
Now the giants were upon the earth
in those days; and after that when the sons
of God were wont to go in to the daughters
of men, they bore [children to them, those
were the giants of old, the men of renown.
5
And the Lord God, having seen that the
wickedactionsofmen
weremultiplied
upon
the earth, and that every one in his heart
was intently brooding over evil continually,
6
then God
laid it to heart
that he
had made man upon the earth, and he
pondered [it] deeply.
7
And God said, I will
blot out man whom I have made from the
face of the earth, even man with cattle, and
reptiles with flying creatures of the sky,
for
I am grieved
that I have made them.
8
But Noe found grace before the Lord
God.
9
And these [are] the generations
of Noe. Noe was a just man; being
perfect in his generation, Noe was
well-
pleasing
to God.
10
And Noe begot three

But the
earth was corrupted before God, and
the earth was filled

Post-flood figurines. Humanity abandoned its original monotheistic faith and progressively declined toward idolatry,
worshipping Nature, their heroes, their passions, and their fears.
Inscriptions unearthed by John Langton (1909-81) in pre-flood levels of Gemdet-Nasr near Babylon and Flinders Petrie (1853-1942)
in Egypt verified the fact that Monotheism was the faith of early humanity.
