The book
1
of the generation of Jesus Christ, the
2
son of David, the
3
son of Abraham.
2
4
Abraham begat Isaac; and
5
Isaac begat Jacob; and
6
Jacob begat Judas and his brothers;
3
And
7
Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar;
and
8
Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;
4
And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson;
and Naasson begat Salmon;
5
And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth;
and Obed begat Jesse;
6
9
And Jesse begat David the king; and
10
David the king begat Solomon
of her that had been the wife of Urias;
7
And
11
Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia
begat Asa;
8
And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram;
and Joram begat Ozias;
(*)
9
And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz
begat Ezekias;
10
12
And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat
Amon; and Amon begat Josias;
11
13
And Josias begat Jechonias and his
brothers,
14
about the time they were carried away to Babylon:
12
And after they were brought to Babylon,
15
Jechonias begat Salathiel;
and
16
Salathiel begat Zorobabel;
13
And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and
Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;
14
And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat
Eliud;
15
And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and
Matthan begat Jacob;
16
And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary,
of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.
17
So all the generations
from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until
the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the
carrying away into Babylon to Christ are fourteen generations.

Palestine
This is the first of the 4 Gospels which are eventually short biographies of Christ and His ministry.
Mattithyah whose name means “
gift of God
”, also known as Levi, was a tax collector when Jesus Christ called him
personally to be one of His 12 apostles. (ΜΑTT. 9:9). Matthew, originally wrote his Gospel -
as he had first-hand knowl-
edge of the life of Christ-
in Hebrew (or
Αramaic;
) for use among the churches of Palestine but later he translated it himself
to Greek. His profession reveals that he was educated and spoke Greek and other languages. “
So then Matthew wrote the
oracles in the Hebrew language (there is no trace of the Hebrew text), and every one interpreted them as he was able.”
Papias of Hierapolis
(70-150 A.D.), -also see: Eusebius Eccl. Hist., ΙΙΙ:39-
“The first Gospel was written by Matthew ...in the
Hebrew language for the faithful Jews”
Origen (185-250 A.D.)-
“Matthew, who is also Levi, and who from tax collector be-
came an apostle, first of all the evangelists compiled a gospel on Christ in Judea, in the Hebrew language ...”
Jerome (347-
420 A.D.) Jerome also first proved that Matthew mainly used the Hebrew text and not the Septuagint Greek translation.
*
This date supported from the fact that the Apostolic Fathers (Clement II, Didache, Ignatius, Hermas and Polycarp) used Gospel of Matthew exclusively.

The detailed genealogy is a strong proof of the Biblical reliability.
Here we have the genealogy of Joseph, the legal father of Jesus Christ
and descendant from king David.
